I was going to call this page “Zen and the Art of Being Right Where You Are Now.” After all, this site is about online marketing and online content…and if you’re reading this page, it worked!
But that was too long for a page title, so I had to settle for the question I am most often asked. What in the world is Online Zen? The answer is simple, because the process is simple.
Online Zen is the art of understanding how the Internet works for website owners and e-commerce companies and ordinary people who are just looking for an answer to their questions.
It Doesn’t Have to Be Complicated!
I’ve worked in the online marketing world for the past 10 years, and it’s never ceased to amaze me that lots of people work very hard to make the world of SEO (Search Engine Optimization) and SEM seem as mysterious and complex as a possible. The fact is, it all comes down to a few basic factors:
- Creating your message
- Sharing your message
- Making it easy for people and search engines to find your message.
And that’s really all there is to it. Sure, the techniques change. And Google likes to switch around the game field every so often. But the core…the Zen of it all…boils down to those three elements. Once business owners and website designers get those three pieces in place, the details become a lot easier to deal with.
The SEO Website that Never Happened
I used to think that I should have one of “those” SEO websites. You know, the complicated kind where I could put in all kinds of jargon and offer all kinds of scary warnings about what would happen to people’s websites if they didn’t hire me and let me work my secret magic. But I never got around to it.
Instead, after I left my corporate job (where I had the pleasure of teaching people how the Internet could make their marketing and sales jobs easier) I started teaching people I met the same things. I taught them what their websites could do. I explained how people search online, and how search engines turn those searches into results. I explained terms like keywords and paid search and metadata. And little by little, people who had started out claiming they could NEVER understand SEO or SEM started to master it!
And so, Online Zen was Born
Online Zen is a place where novices and experienced website owners alike can come and get information and answers to questions. And if your question isn’t answered here, or if you want someone to sit down with you (or share a virtual visit) and explain it all, we’ll be happy to offer our services for a day, a few weeks or a month or two.
Online Zen isn’t about running your e-commerce business or blog for you. It’s about teaching you how to run it well by yourself.
